Two days of rain in Sydney and a forecast of more to come has punters confident trainer Gai Waterhouse is set to claim her fifth Golden Slipper on Saturday, but not with her hot $2.30 favourite Overreach.
Sweet Idea has firmed from $15 into $12 with Sportingbet Australia as punters search for runners capable of handling a rain-affected track.
“Sweet Idea has been the best backed to beat the favourite since Tuesday’s barrier draw,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“Punters haven’t missed the fact she’s the only runner to have won on a wet track,” Sullivan said.
“We’ve taken one bet of $5,000 each way at $15 and a stack of other significant wagers and she’s now into outright third favouritism,” Sullivan said.
“Overreach has been friendless in betting since the initial excitement following the barrier draw and I expect her price to drift between now and Saturday,” Sullivan said.
Darley horse Sidestep is $11 into $9.50 with Sportingbet Australia and the only runner other than Overreach that is under double figures.
Kiwi filly Ruud Awakening, who has won on a dead track in New Zealand, is a $13 equal fourth favourite with Villa Verde.
Waterhouse’s third contender, Whittington, is a $19 chance with Sportingbet Australia.
