News:

The Ciaron Maher-trained Petits Filous has made a big impression with two wins from as many starts and the three-year-old is set for her first attempt in stakes company in the Group Three Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

She stepped out for her debut over 1000 metres on a heavy track at Moonee Valley last month and led all the way to win by six lengths.

Petits Filous returned to Moonee Valley for a three-year-old fillies’ sprint on the opening day of the new season and was just as impressive, racing to a two-length win after taking a sit behind the lead.

Saturday’s Quezette Stakes presents Petits Filous with her first chance at valuable black type.

“She’s in great nick,” Maher said.

“She’ll have a little gallop in the morning and she’ll be pretty right to go.

“She has been very impressive in her two starts and a Group Three is a natural progression, you would think.

“It’s nice timing, in her own backyard at Caulfield at set weights (plus penalties). There’s a lot to like about it.”

The Robert Smerdon-trained Thurlow has topweight of 57.5kg under the conditions while Petits Filous is on the 55kg limit.

The Quezette Stakes (1100m) for three-year-old fillies has attracted 18 nominations while the Vain Stakes (1100m) for colts and geldings has 19 entries including Group-winning colts Headwater and Of The Brave.

The Hawkes Racing-trained Headwater and Godolphin colt Haptic are also nominated for the San Domenico Stakes in Sydney.
