Dances On Stars could foil the Stradbroke Handicap prospects of several runners if he performs as his trainer hopes in the QTC Cup at Doomben.
The winner of Saturday’s Group Two sprint gains automatic entry to Brisbane’s premier race a week later.
But Gerald Ryan says the $2 million Stradbroke (1350m) is not a goal for Dances On Stars.
Stablemates Kuro and Ball Of Muscle are outside the 16-horse field for the Stradbroke and trainer Joe Pride is keen for one or both to get in.
“I don’t think Dances On Stars would be competitive in the Stradbroke and we haven’t paid up for him,” Ryan said.
“He is a good Group Two and Group Three horse although he has shown form against Ball Of Muscle and Srikandi.
“And he had no luck the other day at the Sunshine Coast.”
Dances On Stars finished third behind Srikandi and Ball Of Muscle in the Group Two Victory Stakes on April 25 and was fifth at his most recent start in the Glasshouse Handicap won by Riva De Lago last Saturday week.
Ryan will not be tempted to send My Colleague to Brisbane for the final Group One race for two-year-olds even if the youngster runs and wins at Rosehill on Saturday.
“We’ll wait until the last moment to decide,” he said.
“I was surprised to see him lead at his last start.
“That wasn’t the plan and even if he doesn’t run at Rosehill it would be too hard to back him up off that run on the heavy 10 for the JJ Atkins.”
My Colleague finished fifth in a 1200m race at Randwick last Saturday won by Coys.
