Qld apprentice outed on cannabis charge

A promising apprentice has become the fourth young Queensland jockey in the past seven months to be outed on a drugs charge.

Jag Guthmann-Chester was suspended on Friday for three months after pleading guilty to returning a positive result to cannabis in a routine sample taken at the gold Coast last month.

Although he began race riding only late last year, Guthmann-Chester has created a big impression and had ridden nine winners in recent weeks on country and Northern Rivers tracks.

Premier apprentice Luke Tarrant was last week disqualified for six months on a drugs charge relating to a cocaine derivative while Ric McMahon is scheduled to resume riding next month after serving six months disqualification for an amphetamine-related charge.

Matt McGillivray is back riding after serving a four-month ban for an amphetamine charge.
