The odds of owner Lloyd Williams winning that elusive Sportingbet Cox Plate are firming, with Fawkner shortening in betting forSaturday’s Group 1 weight-for-age classic at Moonee Valley after drawing favourably at this morning’s barrier draw.

Fawkner was trimmed from $4.25 into $4.00 at Sportingbet.com.au after drawing barrier 4, but his two closest rivals in the market both drifted.
Irish galloper Adelaide, who punters had heavily backed from $9 into $5 in the days leading up to the barrier draw, has now eased out to $7 at Sportingbet after drawing barrier 13. Sacred Falls also eased from $5 out to $6.50 after being dealt gate 9.
“Fawkner will get a gun from the gate and there’s no question he’ll start favourite now,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
“It’s a terrific betting race and we expect the punters will come for a number of runners between now and Saturday.”
“Within an hour of the draw we took a $6,000 bet for Royal Descent and another bet of $1,000 by $2,000 for Sweynesse at the big odds.”
Criterion ($8) is the only other runner under double figures in Sportingbet’s market.
