Precise Star’s 2026 metro racing prospects with Tony Gollan

Precise Star has proven to be a promising acquisition for Tony Gollan’s stable, achieving two wins from two starts since his transfer to Queensland ownership.

The gelding, formerly trained by Chris Waller, did not perform to expectations in Sydney but has since rediscovered winning form at Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Despite these wins being in maiden and benchmark 58 company, Gollan is confident in the four-year-old’s potential for city-grade racing.

His next outing is scheduled for The Lawn Shed Class 2 Handicap (1680m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. The weight impost of 59 kilograms will be eased by apprentice Bella Youngberry’s three-kilogram claim.

“I think the mile suits him,” Gollan commented. “He comes off a dominant win at Gold Coast so he steps to that midweek grade which I don’t think will be too much for him and he has improved.”

Youngberry has a 14% winning strike rate and a 40% placing rate from her 800 career rides. For the Gollan stable, she has partnered 26% winners and 55% placings from 38 rides.

“He gets in well with Bella Youngberry’s claim and he’s the right horse for this race,” Gollan added. “There wasn’t much we had to do with him after he arrived but he is a nice horse though he does have some quirks. He definitely has metro racing ability.”
