A Group Two race at Flemington is the target for Flying Jess for her first start since she won the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas in Queensland.

Flying Jess sprung a surprise when she stormed home to topple dual Group One-winning filly Global Glamour in the Magic Millions Guineas as a $101 chance in January.

The field also included the previously unbeaten and now-retired colt Winning Rupert.

The John Moloney-trained filly was given a freshen-up after her Gold Coast win before attention turned to preparing her for Saturday’s Group Two Kewney (1400m) against her own age and sex.

A trip to Sydney also hinges on how she performs on Saturday.

“She had a week off in the paddock and then a week on the water walker before coming back to the stables,” Moloney said.

“She had a trial at Caulfield last Tuesday in preparation to run in the Kewney and she’s done well.

“She eats well and looks in good order so I’ll be looking forward to stepping her out in the Kewney.”

Apprentice Jordan Childs has been booked for the ride in the Kewney which is over the same distance as the Magic Millions Guineas.

Although Flying Jess was already a Group Three winner in the Sires’ Produce Stakes in Adelaide, the rich Gold Coast win was a big thrill for Moloney.

“It was fantastic. I was really bouncing out of that one,” he said.

Flying Jess holds a nomination for the Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m during The Championships in Sydney next month.

“We’ve nominated for a race during The Championships but I’ll be waiting to see what she does and how she manages herself and assessing her from there after this race,” Moloney said.
