News:

Clinton McDonald will follow a tried-and-true spring path with Revolving Door who returns to racing at Caulfield.

McDonald said Revolving Door would have a four-run campaign into October’s Caulfield Guineas, a pattern followed by his late father Ross with Weekend Hussler who won the Group One race in 2007.

A veteran of three race starts, Revolving Door lines up in the Vain Stakes on Saturday.

“He’s grown, he’s developed into a lovely colt now,” McDonald said.

“There’s 10 runners and all trainers are in the same boat wanting to get their horses out on to the track to see if they’ve improved.”

Revolving Door was a closing fourth to subsequent Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Flying Artie on debut at Caulfield before scoring a maiden win at Sandown in February.

He was then sent for a break after running third to Seaburge in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington in March.

McDonald said Revolving Door had undergone pre-training at Rosemont Stud before returning to his Caulfield stable in top order.

“As they do from two to three he’s really strengthened up and developed,” McDonald said.

“You’ll see a magnificent looking horse on Saturday and we’re just hoping he’s up to them.”

Following Saturday’s run McDonald indicated the H D F McNeill Stakes on August 27 would be the three-year-old’s next start before the Exford Plate at Flemington on September 10.

He will then have his final Guineas lead-up in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on September 24.

“It’s two weeks into each one,” McDonald said.

“It’s sort of the same program the old man took with Hussler, four runs into the Guineas.

“We think he’s a real likely type and all looks good with him.”
