Patrick Keane faces inquiry on Thursday

Patrick Keane will front Queensland stewards on Thursday at a reconvened inquiry into the apprentice weighing in light at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Chief steward Wade Birch has agreed to have the matter heard in the absence of Gold Coast trainer Kelly Doughty to whom Keane is indentured.

Instead, Doughty’s husband, former jockey Gary Doughty, will represent the stable.

Gold Rating was disqualified as the winner of the Sky Racing Handicap after Keane weighed in light with the race awarded to well supported favourite Mr Light Blue.

Keane, a former Victorian apprentice, weighed out at 55.60 kilograms but returned after the race to weigh in at 54.76kg.

Stewards were subsequently forced to disqualify Gold Rating under Australian Rule 143 (a).

Under the rules, riders are allowed a half kilo discretion.

Keane blamed the extreme humidity and a tough ride for his weight loss during an initial inquiry into the race.
