That’s A Good Idea has won his first Listed race and smashed the 1100m course record in the Ortensia Stakes at Scone.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, That’s A Good Idea overcame a wide barrier to win Saturday’s race in 1min01.98secs to eclipse the mark of 1min02.52secs set by Dream Choice in 2011.
That’s A Good Idea ($12) and Zaratone ($26) shared the lead to the turn where Zaratone took over.
But Zaratone weakened while That’s A Good Idea fought back to win by three-quarters of a length from the favourite Target In Sight ($3.70) with Atmospherical ($5.50) a further half head away third.
Peter Snowden admitted he was surprised with the time.
“He has always been a handy horse but today, that was one of his best wins,” Snowden said.
“He beat a top field from a bad draw and he took no prisoners.
“He races well for Hughie (Bowman) who let him roll and kept rolling and he was good enough in the end.”
“He did all the work and deserved to win. He will go to Brisbane now for the BTC Cup in a two weeks time but it is all weather related.
“If it is wet he won’t go. He is hopeless in that sort of going.”
That’s A Good Idea was having his first start since finishing last in the Expressway Stakes in January.
Bowman said the five-year-old had taken time to get into stride.
“He was smoking going into the corner but I just held him together and balanced him up and at the 300 metres he really lengthened stride,” he said.
“He is not normally a sit and sprint type of horse but in this case he really lengthened.”
