Spending her days in a paddock has turned around the fortunes of Cinnamon Carter who chases a first black type win in the Pakenham Cup.

A veteran of 47 starts, Cinnamon Carter broke through for her second success in June and has since added another five victories in her past 13 starts.

Cinnamon Carter is considered an each-way chance in Saturday’s 2500m Listed race coming off a last-start win over 3000m at Moonee Valley.

Trainer Robbie Laing says Cinnamon Carter spends her day in a paddock with Amazon Eve with the pair heading to the track together, eating the same feed and doing similar work.

“Someone asked me why I embarrass myself taking her (Amazon Eve) to the races,” Laing said.

“I explained I can’t have her in the paddock with Cinnamon Carter and then leave her in the paddock when she goes to the track as she would end up like a whale.

“They leave for the track on the same float, they eat the same, they work at the same time.

“It’s working for Cinnamon Carter and Amazon Eve will win a maiden one day.”

Laing says it’s easy for Cinnamon Carter to hold her form as she keeps her mind fresh by spending time in the paddock.

Now Laing wants a fast run Pakenham Cup to give the mare a chance of a stakes win, something that was the furthest thing from his mind earlier in the year.

“I was hoping one day she’d be able to win a midweek city race and that would be a one-off,” Laing said.

“Then I’d be able to say she’s a nice mare with a pedigree that won a race in town.

“She’s now won the Pinker Pinker Plate, won over 2000 metres and 3000 metres at the Valley and a fast run race on Saturday would be great for her.

“When they start to knock up at the finish on the big track, she’ll be powering home.

“She won over 3000 metres at her last start and she’s coming back to 2500, so that won’t worry her at all.”

Ballarat Cup winner Pilote D’essai holds favouritism for Saturday’s race at $3.80 ahead of Little White Cloud at $4.80 and Swacadelic at $5.

Cinnamon Carter shares the fifth line of betting at $11 with Thunder Teddington.
