Jockey Dwayne Dunn figures it is best to ignore the class of race and focus on the horses London Lolly has beaten when assessing the filly’s first-up chances in the Quezette Stakes.

“If you look on paper and don’t look at what she’s beaten, it would be easy to say she has taken soft options and might have lucked out,” Dunn said.

“You would have thought at the time it was probably the easy option to go through that grade but you never know what you are going to run into sometimes.”

London Lolly was kept away from the Sydney autumn carnival and won the Listed St Albans Stakes in Melbourne and the Group Three Breeders’ Stakes in Adelaide.

Nevertheless, the Charge Forward filly had to overcome high-quality opposition in her two black-type wins.

Golden Slipper placegetter Bring Me The Maid finished behind London Lolly in the St Albans Stakes while Champagne Stakes winner Go Indy Go was among her Breeders’ Stakes rivals.

Dunn has partnered London Lolly in most of her work since she returned to Hawkes Racing’s Flemington stable, including jump-out at the track last month.

London Lolly has pleased Dunn in her work leading up to the Quezette Stakes in which she is a $5.50 chance behind the well-backed $2.70 favourite Royal Snitzel.

“I think she’s more of a speed filly and I don’t know how far she can be stretched and her speed is her asset,” Dunn said.

“We’ll probably need to see her have a couple of runs in before we determine what her right distance is.”

Dunn will also ride the Robbie Laing-trained Just For Starters in the Group Three Vain Stakes (1100m).

Just For Starters won impressively on debut at Caulfield before working home well from the back of the field when fifth at Moonee Valley.
