Injured apprentice jockey Nyssa Burrells continues to make slow progress from a brain injury suffered in a fall but remains in intensive care in Liverpool Hospital.

After being put in an induced coma after the fall in a jump-out at Warwick Farm last Friday week, Burrells’ sedation has been lessened and she is opening her eyes and moving her limbs while breathing on her own.

But Racing NSW doctor David Duckworth said although the signs were encouraging, it was too early to tell how she would recover.

“We are still very cautious. The next week will be important to see the recovery is heading,” Duckworth told Sky Sports Radio.

“It is good that she is opening her eyes and moving her limbs.

“It’s a matter how she responds over the next few days and if she recognises people.

“We hope she continues to improve as we’ve seen.”

Burrells underwent surgery after the incident to relieve a brain bleed.
