Trainer Chris Waller has put to bed any rumours that Winx may run in this years $13m Everest or the 2018 Melbourne Cup.
When asked about whether he has contemplated running the Champion mare in either of Australia’s richest races Waller was quick to rule them out saying they had probably missed the boat to run the mare over the two distances.
“No I haven’t realistically considered The Everest. I’ve fantasized about the Melbourne Cup just as much,” Waller said.
“She (Winx) could probably win both but you don’t use ‘probably’ when you’re training a horse like Winx – you try to stick to ‘definitely’.
Winx is likely to have a similar campaign as last year with her first run to be in the Warwick Stakes which has just been renamed to the Winx Stakes in her honour before runs in the Chelmsford Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes, Turnbull Stakes and Cox Plate.
Winx is currently $1.70 in most markets for the 2018 Cox Plate which has been rumoured to be her last run.
