Nick Hall will miss Cox Plate 2013 ride

Caulfield Cup winning jockey Nick Hall will miss the Cox Plate after failing in his bid to have a careless riding suspension overturned.

Hall was outed for a ride in one of the support races on Saturday’s Caulfield Cup card and his poor record counted against him when he appealed the stewards’ ban before Victoria’s Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Tuesday although the length of the suspension was reduced.

His absence at Moonee Valley on Saturday means Michael Rodd will ride Masked Marvel for owner Lloyd Williams in the Cox Plate.

Rodd was to have ridden Atlantic Jewel but the pre-race favourite suffered a career-threatening injury at trackwork on Tuesday morning.

Glen Boss is also appealing a suspension which will deny him the chance to ride Puissance De Lune in the Cox Plate.
