Consistent two-year-old Turfane could have another chance to impress prospective buyers if he backs up at Saturday’s Flemington meeting.

Turfane has produced top four finishes at each of his five runs to date, including a narrow second to the Chris Hyland-trained Gloop at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

The colt’s honest performances have attracted the interest of Asian buyers and Saturday’s Murray Cox Handicap (1410m) could serve as another advertisement of his talent.

“I don’t blame them because he’s an up and coming young horse and there’s not much wrong with his form,” trainer Saab Hasan said.

“He’s a genuine horse.”

Turfane is one of 22 nominations for the Murray Cox Handicap, which offers $30,000 in Super VOBIS bonuses and $20,000 in VOBIS Gold payments to the winner.

Hasan said the bonuses on offer were a consideration in deciding whether to back Turfane up and the two-year-old had pleased him with his recovery since his Moonee Valley run.

Turfane will carry 58kg if he runs in the race while the Robbie Laing-trained Temps Voleur has the 59kg top weight.

Temps Voleur impressed with his last-start win at Sandown after which Laing declared his intention to aim the youngster at November’s Group One Victoria Derby.

Hasan says import Voila Ici could also run in the fifth heat of the Banjo Paterson Series (2520m), a week after finishing third to Lightenuff at Moonee Valley.

The Flemington trainer said the nine-year-old took longer than his younger stablemate to recover from his races but the import was a good chance of taking his place in the $80,000 race.

The Chris Waller-trained Permit heads the entries for the Banjo Paterson with his stablemate Mulaqen entered for the Flemington distance race as well as the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill.
