Stable stalwarts Mr Make Believe and jockey Linda Meech combined at Rosehill on Saturday to give Peter Moody his first Sydney winner since he set up a permanent base in the harbour city at the beginning of the year to complement his Melbourne base.
The winner of nine of his 17 starts, Mr Make Believe ($6) led all the way to take out the Endeavour Foundation Recycled Clothing Handicap (1500m) by 1-1/2 lengths over Brightest ($8) with All Legal ($20) another half-neck away third.
Meech, one of Victoria’s most prolific provincial riders, works for Moody and answered the call to come to Sydney to ride Moment Of Change in the Hobartville Stakes to replace the suspended Blake Shinn, and Mr Make Believe.
The jockey was happy with Moment Of Change who finished a solid third behind Wild And Proud and Manawanui but was thrilled to be back with striking grey Mr Make Believe.
“I’ve had six rides on him for five wins,” Meech said.
“He is 100 per cent one of my favourites.
“That’s his go. He is a tough horse and when he can lead like that, it suits.
“I’m very happy. It was definitely worth it to come here today.
“Moment Of Change still has a lot to learn. He got to the front at about the 300 metres and I think he thought he’d won the race.
“I understand he’ll step up to 1600 metres next and that should suit.”
