Millane Sydney bound for ATC Inglis Sires 2022

Trainer Peter Moody is looking at heading to a Group 1 contest in Sydney with Millane after missing out on a start in the Golden Slipper.

A debut winner of the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) at Flemington March 5, Millane was the first emergency for the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.

Sydney’s wet weather, which forced the cancellation of Saturday’s Tancred Stakes meeting at Rosehill, will not pose a problem for Millane who is Sydney bound for the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Moody’s assistant-trainer Katherine Coleman said it was disappointing that Millane had missed a start in the Golden Slipper.

But the son of Zoustar has been given extensive education right-handed to prepare him for a start in the Sires’.

“He had a reverse jump-out at Pakenham with a couple of our other horses on Tuesday morning,” Coleman said.

“It was a private jump-out as we are thinking of sending a couple of our other horses up to Sydney also.

“He pleased us in that hit-out and all the indications are is that he will be heading that way.”

Coleman said Millane’s performance in the Sires’ would determine whether the colt remains in Sydney to contest the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

While the campaign of Millane continues for the feature two-year-old Sydney races, another of Moody’s youngsters Merchant Prince has been sent for a spell.

Merchant Prince finished seventh in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last month before finishing seventh to Let’Srollthedice in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 12.
