Militarize, whose stud career was quickly halted due to poor fertility, is back on the track and ready for his return in the Canterbury Stakes at Randwick.
The 2023 Golden Rose winner was retired after finishing third in last year’s Doncaster Mile but is now set to race as a gelding.
Trainer Chris Waller has full confidence in Militarize, stating the four-year-old is a “professional” and doesn’t show signs of being affected by his time away from racing.
“I’m not concerned about what he’s done off the racetrack,” Waller said. “He’s a workman and has never wavered.”
Militarize has been in work since November, undergoing a gradual build-up with two official barrier trials and an exhibition gallop at Randwick.
Waller also confirmed stablemate Switzerland would race in the same 1300m event after resuming with a solid fourth in Melbourne’s Lightning Stakes (1000m).
Switzerland is on track for the T J Smith Stakes (1200m), while Militarize’s future could include the Doncaster Mile (1600m), George Ryder Stakes (1500m), and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).
