News:

Trainer Ben Hull admits he hadn’t even bothered to have a cent on his tough mare Bronte Babe before she scored at $101 at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Bronte Babe scored the upset of the season when she beat Three Points ($4) by a head with a long head to Endless Don ($16) in third in the IPG Connect Hcp (2400m).

Bronte Babe, who is owned by Macau horse chiropractor Ross Manson and was originally trained in Sydney by John Sargeant, took 21 starts to win her first race – a maiden over 2180 metres at Ipswich two weeks ago.

“She had a few breathing problems when she came up here but we worked on them and she seems to have come good,” Hull said.

“I knew she would run a strong 2400 metres and I knew she would beat more home than would beat her home.

“I was going to spell her but not many horses go from a midweek maiden to winning a Benchmark 75 at their next start, so I might have to find something else for her.”

Hull said he had not bothered to back Bronte Babe despite the big price.

“But mum had something on her so she wasn’t friendless,” he added.
