Melbourne Cup winner’s brother fetches $200,000

Caulfield trainer Henry Dwyer has paid $200,000 for the yearling brother to Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance at the New Zealand premier sale.

Dwyer bought Prince Of Penzance’s sister at the 2015 Karaka sale for $120,000 and said he had expected to go higher this year.

“I was expecting to pay a bit more for this colt actually,” Dwyer said.

“Most of him is spoken for but there’s still bit left in him.

“Even without his pedigree, he’s just a nice horse and that’s what I wanted to buy.

“Obviously the pedigree is a factor and it’s a help that we have the sister which we like a lot.”

Another of the interesting lots, an unusual white filly, will head to Japan with Hideo Takaduru paying $450,000 on behalf of Dearest Club Japan.

The filly’s mother, The Opera House, is one of the few registered white thoroughbreds in the world and also has a white colt foal at foot.
