After giving her camp a scare late last week, My Ambivalent has been cleared to run in the Melbourne Cup.
Racing Victoria’s chief veterinarian Dr Brian Stewart inspected the mare following a light canter at Werribee on Tuesday morning.
Trainer Roger Varian’s travelling foreman David Eustace said the mare had been passed fit following a trot-up and a thorough inspection.
My Ambivalent will have a final gallop on Friday under race jockey Andrea Atzeni.
“As expected by me she was fine,” Eustace said.
“Brian was happy and she will be inspected on Thursday with the rest of the runners as per normal and she will carry on with her training.”
Eustace said Varian would arrive on Friday morning to oversee the final stages of My Ambivalent’s preparation, describing her as “sound as a pound”.
He said there was a minor hiccup along the way, but stressed it was not enough to derail her Cup campaign.
My Ambivalent was led off the track after working at Werribee last Friday, but Eustace said the mare recovered quickly and was walking out freely 15 minutes later.
The major issue was the stone bruise that forced My Ambivalent to miss the Caulfield Cup.
“Ten to 12 days ago she had a stone bruise to her off fore and once she got over that she hasn’t been lame except for when she rapped her joint, but 15 minutes later back here she was sound and she’s been sound ever since,” Eustace said.
“I’m pleased with the way she looks physically, she’s done enough work and we hope for a good draw and an easy passage round and hopes she stays the two miles.”
