McDonald backs Tempted as a Golden Slipper contender after Reisling Stakes win

Champion jockey James McDonald has praised Tempted’s chances in the Golden Slipper after guiding the James Cummings-trained filly to victory in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes at Randwick.

Tempted, a daughter of Street Boss, had a strong showing after a narrow loss in the Widden Stakes and a midfield finish in the Blue Diamond Stakes in Melbourne.

Settling towards the rear, the $2.90 favourite surged down the outside to win by a neck from Marhoona ($11), with Inkaruna ($5.50) finishing third.

“She’s a beautiful filly and she’s just promised a lot,” McDonald said. “She rides really well and she’s a genuine Golden Slipper hope.”

McDonald compared Tempted to her dam, Calliope, recalling their shared traits. “She was a little weapon of a filly,” he added.

Trainer Cummings was pleased with her performance, saying, “She’s come out of the Blue Diamond and hasn’t taken a backward step.”

Tempted has moved from $26 to $9 in Golden Slipper betting.
