Pivotal information in Queensland Racing Integrity Commission’s case against Ben Currie and four of his stable employees has emerged.

CCTV Footage obtained by The Courier Mail allegedly shows Ben Currie’s father, Mark Currie, illegally treating horses on raceday at Ben Currie’s Hursley Road stable in Toowoomba.

The footage published on The Courier Mail was filmed on March 24, a key date where stewards allege that 5 horses were treated illegally before racing that same day.

The Courier Mail also published transcripts of interviews transcripts conducted by QRIC’s integrity regulation unit manager Tracey Pelling, chief steward Allan Reardon and steward Ian Brown with Mark Currie.

In one of the excerpts Mark Currie was questioned whether he had treated Gully’s Command on March 24 to which he replied “I’ll take responsibility for it”.

Alan Reardon: … You agree that Gully Command’s been treated on that day?

Mark Currie: Yep.

Alan Reardon: Is there anything you’d like to say before the team here review further footage?

Mark Currie: No. I’ll just take it – I’ll take responsibility for it.

Mark Currie was disqualified for two years after being found guilty of 16 charges involving race day treatment. He remains operating having been granted an extension of a stay on his disqualification.

Ben Currie is facing 31 charges which mainly relate to alleged race day treatments.

He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and has indicated he will defend them all.

Other Ben Currie employees punished as a result of the inquiry include Greg Britnell (18 months disqualification), Cameron Schwenke (three months suspension) and Silde Canda (three months suspension).
