Trainer Bruce Cross is likely to take on the ATC Australian Oaks with Diamond Made, a filly bred by his brother John.
Diamond Made ($41) swept down the outside in the final race on the first day of The Championships at Randwick to score a boilover win by one length from the favourite Alaskan Rose ($3.90) with Zasorceress ($21) a head away third.
Cross said he would wait a few days to make a final decision on the Oaks.
“Everything going well, we will,” Cross said.
“It’s onwards and upwards.”
Diamond Made completed a remarkable form reversal after finishing last in a maiden at Kembla Grange last start to win the 2000m Group Three Adrian Knox Stakes.
“We’ve had a lot of luck with this filly but up until today it’s been all bad so it’s nice to turn the corner,” Cross said.
“From day one she’s sort of had a trip written all over her but you’ve got to prove it before you can tell anyone.”
John Cross was elated after the win, pointing out he had a full-sister yearling in the paddock ready to break in.
Jockey Glyn Schofield was confident Diamond Made would run in Oaks in a week’s time.
“If she’s learned anything from today it is how to hit the line so of course next Saturday beckons,” Schofield said.
