News:

Danny Curran will be keeping a close watch on the weather as The Big Dance prepares for her return to racing.

The three-year-old has been nominated for 1200m races at Flemington on Friday and Moonee Valley on Saturday.

But the forecast temperature of 36 degrees and humid conditions has Curran keeping his options open.

“I may even accept in both races and have a look at them,” Curran said.

“The original plan was to go to Flemington, but I’m going to avoid the humidity.”

While The Big Dance is yet to race beyond 1000m, Curran said there were no suitable short course options but added the filly has been trained up for the 1200m first-up.

Curran favours the Flemington race despite The Big Dance having to lump 60kg and the race worth $70,000 less than Saturday’s VOBIS Gold Carat at Moonee Valley.

The trainer has the $250,000 Inglis Dash (1100m) at Flemington on January 16 in mind for The Big Dance.

“It’s very hard to win down the straight at your first try but at the same time when you look at the nominations, the race at Moonee Valley has some attraction with the good prize money,” he said.

A $750 yearling, The Big Dance created a big impression with her debut victory on her home track at Bendigo in March before running fourth at Moonee Valley behind Petits Filou in August.

After the race as the field was easing down, The Big Dance crashed through the inside running rail causing her and Dean Yendall to fall.

Curran is still at a loss to explain what happened, suggesting it was the first time a horse had run past her.

“She slipped at the start, slipped at the finish and she had never had one go past her before,” Curran said.

“I think she lost concentration.”

In-form Harry Coffey has been booked for the Flemington ride while it will be between the apprentice and Yendall if she runs at Moonee Valley.
