Racing News:

Gai Waterhouse has paid $1.3 million for a colt she hopes can be as good as his 2008 Golden Slipper-winning sibling Sebring.

The colt by More Than Ready out of Purespeed was one of three yearlings to top $1 million on the second day of the Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast.

Waterhouse and her training partner Adrian Bott will prepare him for a 2018 Slipper campaign.

Like Sebring, the colt was bred by Corumbene Stud whose principal George Altomonte raced another of Waterhouse’s six Slipper winners, Overreach in 2013.

Altomonte will retain a share in him alongside John Singleton, bloodstock agent Dermot Farrington and a group of his owners and a group of people who raced 2015 Slipper winner Vancouver with Waterhouse.

“I saw him in the paddock and I said ‘George, I’m not leaving the sale without him,” Waterhouse said.

“He’s your next Golden Slipper horse.”

“He’s very masculine, he moves so freely and he’s got an oomph factor – a sex appeal about him.”

Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller and his bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster spent $1.1 million on a colt by Snitzel out of Sabanci.

The pair have formed a formidable team with Mulcaster finding superstar mare Winx and several other Group one winners for Waller.

“Chris and I really liked him and bought him for a number of stable clients,” Mulcaster said.

“We’ve had good results with them and they are happy to stick solid.”

Hong Kong owners paid $1 million for a Medaglia D’Oro colt out of Sangfroid.
