Tom Charlton has urged punters to forget Snow In May’s Silver Eagle run and judge her on her earlier form as she chases redemption in the Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.
Group 1 placed as a three-year-old in the Flight Stakes, Snow In May resumed with a fast-finishing third in the Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) and backed it up with a strong fourth in the Golden Pendant (1400m).
Her Silver Eagle effort was better than it reads, caught wide from the outside draw before boxing on to midfield. From barrier two in the Hot Danish, Charlton expects a return to her best.
“Her run in the Silver Eagle, you can probably put a line through it when she got caught four-deep,” Charlton said.
“Her run before that had a bit more merit and she is back to mares’ company now.
“It’s still a hard ask but on her best form she is capable of being very competitive.”
The stable also has Hurstville Zagreb engaged in the Petaluma Handicap (1800m), aiming for consecutive wins after a dominant midweek performance.
Once considered an Australian Derby prospect, his campaign was disrupted when he was scratched from a key race due to an incident in the tie-up stalls.
Charlton said the gelding is now progressing towards black-type level with maturity.
“He’s a big, scopey horse that is getting better with racing and learning about the job,” he said.
“He was really dominant second-up over the mile. He gets to 1800 and it should be a nice opportunity to hopefully get a Saturday win.
“We will keep working through the rating system and if he can keep going up, that will allow him to potentially get to some of those Listed and Group Three level races in time.”
The team is rounded out by Bartolf in the Ranvet Handicap (1200m), who is chasing his first Saturday metropolitan success after strong provincial and midweek form.
