While Snippets Land isn’t getting any younger, co-trainer Paul Snowden insists the horse is going as well as ever as he sizes up a trip to the Gold Coast.
There are options aplenty for the six-year-old gelding including the December Handicap (1400m) where he has been accepted to run at Rosehill on Saturday.
Snowden, who trains alongside his father Peter, said Snippets Land could be saved for Canterbury or Doomben on New Year’s Eve.
“Wherever he steps out he’s going to run well because he’s going so well,” Snowden said.
In any case, the target is the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast on January 14.
Snippets Land hasn’t run since his first-up runner-up finish behind Lunar Rise at Rosehill on November 12.
He trialled over 1050m at Randwick on December 13, running third behind talented stablemate France who is set to go around in the three-year-old race on Saturday.
“Snippets Land trialled enormous,” Snowden said.
“He’s going super the old bugger.”
Stablemate That’s A Good Idea is more assured of a start in the December Handicap.
It will be the first time since October 2013 he has raced over 1400m when trained by Joe Pride to win over the distance.
“I think he’s an older horse looking for something like the 1400 metres,” Snowden said.
“We know he likes to dominate his races and there’s another horse in it called Religify that does exactly the same thing.”
After two defeats as favourite, Religify made it third time lucky by winning strongly in open company at Rosehill on November 19.
He was scratched from Rosehill on December 3 after showing signs of lameness but is fighting fit ahead of Saturday.
If Snippets Land runs at Rosehill, it could set up the first of two meetings between him and Religify with horses with both likely to head to the Gold Coast.
“Religify’s obviously racing in good form,” trainer Chris Waller said.
“I expect him to race well on Saturday and hopefully proceed to the Magic Millions Cup over 1400 metres.”
