The David Hayes trained Surging Wave has been backed at massive odds of $101 for Saturday’s Australian Derby at Randwick racecourse.

The last start Cranbourne 0-64 rating winner opened at $101 at online bookmaker Sportsbet before punters stepped in and specked the galloper into his current quote of $67.
Surging Wave has had ten career starts for just the two wins and under $40,000 in prize money, with almost half of that coming from his last start win.
Originally from New Zealand where he had two starts for a fifth and a ninth the gelding was brought to Australia where he won on debut at Bendigo by a good margin coming from the back off the field.

Surging Wave was purchased from the New Zealand Premier Yearling sale for $290,000 and is from Encosta De Lago out of mare Lucida who was a Listed winner.
