Logan planning ahead of Parramatta Cup 2016

While she waits to find out whether Matt Cameron will be fit to ride Hasselhoof in the Parramatta Cup, New Zealand trainer Donna Logan is planning a Sydney Group One raid with a stablemate.

Three-year-old Valley Girl won the weight-for-age Herbie Dyke Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday to set up a tilt at the ATC Australian Oaks which Logan won two years ago with Rising Romance.

A day after the filly’s win with Lisa Allpress aboard, Cameron fell at Matamata and must get two medical clearances to ride Hasselhoof at Rosehill on Saturday.

Hasselhoof is one of 16 entries for Saturday’s Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill where he will try to regain his winning form after suffering his first defeat when fourth at Randwick on February 6.

“He has done really well since the Randwick race and the 1900 metres will suit him down to the ground,” Logan said.

“I understand Matt is trying to get a clearance tomorrow so hopefully that goes well because I don’t have a contingency plan.”

Cameron was the villain in the Waikato Sprint on Saturday when he took Xtravagant along the rail to score an eight-length win in the 1400m-Group One race in which the Logan-trained Rosehill Guineas winner Volkstok’n’barrell finished sixth, another two lengths from the runner-up.

“Volkstok’n’barrell had to cover a lot of extra ground so all in all we were happy with the run,” Logan said.

“He will run in a Group One mile race at Otaki and then we will decide if he comes back to Sydney.

“But Valley Girl will definitely come now.

“I’m excited about her especially as she beat a weight-for-age field.

“She is the first filly to win the race and she will run in the New Zealand Derby and then come over for the Oaks.

“I’d like to win another.”

Like Volkstok’n’barrell, Hasselhoof has been entered for the Doncaster Mile and Queen Elizabeth Stakes but both will have to prove they can be competitive.
