Regal Vow will always be a memorable horse for Charlotte Littlefield, as she provided the Pakenham-based trainer with her first ‘Black Type’ victory.
The Listed Lord Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield Heath on Boxing Day last year marked Littlefield’s biggest career triumph until She’s Bulletproof surpassed it with a win in the Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes at Sandown the following month.
Regal Vow has not raced since her Lord Stakes victory but is set to return in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Littlefield made the most of an opportunity to give the mare a track gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, following a single jump-out at Pakenham last Tuesday as part of her preparation.
“She’s freshened up well since the win,” Littlefield said.
“We brought her here this morning because she’s only had the one jump-out, and I wanted her to put in a little extra work. At home, she doesn’t really have a blow or exert much effort.
“It was a great chance to give her a proper tune-up before Saturday.”
Regal Vow has had three starts at Caulfield, securing a win and a second-place finish, along with her Lord Stakes victory on the Caulfield Heath track.
Her only unplaced effort at Caulfield came on a heavy track in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes, just before she claimed the Lord Stakes.
“She runs well here, and having Craig Williams back on board is fantastic,” Littlefield said.
“He couldn’t be here this morning as he was at Pakenham for She’s Bulletproof’s jump-out, so the track riders took over today—myself included.
“The track had plenty of give this morning, and as long as it’s not too firm on Saturday, I think she’ll run well.
“She’s had a freshen-up between runs, and she’s usually very sharp first-up.”
Littlefield also provided an update on She’s Bulletproof, who had a light jump-out at Pakenham in preparation for the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley next Saturday.
Following her Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes win, She’s Bulletproof finished runner-up to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.
“She just had a soft hit-out this morning, mainly a grass gallop to stretch her legs, and at this stage, we’re planning to head to the William Reid,” Littlefield said.
