BRC Sprint 2025 and Stradbroke Handicap aims for War Machine

Lindsay Park strengthened its Queensland Carnival hand at Caulfield on Saturday, with a trio of impressive winners headlined by War Machine and Madiyya pushing their cases for a northern campaign.

The powerful training partnership of Ben, Will and JD Hayes emerged as the standout stable on the day, landing a winning treble with War Machine, Madiyya and roughie Angry Skies.

War Machine, recently transferred from Mike Moroney and Glen Thompson, stamped himself a Stradbroke Handicap hopeful with a commanding victory over 1400m, bouncing back from an unlucky second at Mornington last start.

“We’re just so fortunate to be given this horse to train and he’s been a pleasure,” Ben Hayes said.

“He’s been in the system nearly two weeks now and arrived to us in good condition.

“He’s an exciting horse heading up to Queensland now, we’ll look to run in the BRC Sprint in two weeks’ time and hopefully he can get qualified to run in the Stradbroke.”

Backed into $1.90, War Machine was given a perfect ride by Jamie Mott and surged clear to score by 1-1/4 lengths over Jimmy The Bear ($26), with Oscar’s Fortune ($14) hanging on for third in the day’s fast-class event.

Earlier in the card, Madiyya made it two wins from three starts with a dominant 1400m performance in a benchmark 70 for three-year-old fillies. Piloted by Luke Currie, the Super Seth filly justified her short $2.05 quote and continues to build a strong reputation.

While her Queensland trip isn’t locked in, connections are eyeing races like the Fred Best Classic as possibilities.

“There’s a race called the Fred Best (Classic), which is 1400, then a couple of weeks later there’s a mile, but she’s talented and the first thing we’re going to be guided by is how she pulls up,” Will Hayes said.

Madiyya is well-related, being out of Ruqqaya and a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Grunt and Group 2 performer Zayydani, both raced under the same Trelawney Park Stud colours.

Completing the stable’s hat-trick was $41 outsider Angry Skies, who followed up his Warracknabeal Cup win with a strong 1600m benchmark 84 victory, giving Lindsay Park a valuable boost in mid-prep form heading into winter.
