Compared to the Victoria Handicap highlight, the Easter Cup over Caulfield track has offered fewer victories for Lindsay Park.
Ben, Will and JD Hayes look to extend their dominance to three in a row in Saturday’s Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) via Here To Shock and Cafe Millenium, contrasting their pursuit of a maiden success in the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m).
Jet Away provided Lindsay Park’s lone Easter Cup win since the millennium, taking it in 2013 for David Hayes.
The brothers enter this 2026 renewal powerfully armed with Bankers Choice and Plymouth in a wide-open betting affair.
Bankers Choice, third less than two lengths adrift of Birdman in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on March 14, now tackles his second start of the term.
Absent since October’s Caulfield Cup (2400m), the long-distance specialist was meticulously prepared for his reappearance.
JD Hayes indicated the Peter Young Stakes effort bore this out.
“Enormous,” Hayes said of the run.
“It was as good a first-up run that he has had in his career I would think.
“He’s right on track for the 2000 metres and it looks right in his sweet spot.”
At $15 in betting, Bankers Choice meets 60kg with Daniel Stackhouse in the irons Saturday.
Plymouth, beaten into second in his latest Albury Cup, shortens to $7.50 in betting and draws Luke Currie.
Condition has mounted steadily for Plymouth, who was fourth to Tom Kitten in Caulfield’s Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1400m) on February 7 and then to Birdman in Flemington’s Blamey Stakes (1600m) February 28.
“He was very good in the Albury Cup,” Hayes said.
“He was genuine and did everything right, but I think he will appreciate getting back on his Melbourne leg.”
