Nash Rawiller hailed the toughness and attitude of Lindermann after the gelding produced a commanding front-running victory in the $2 million Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The pair have forged a strong partnership, with Rawiller now riding the Chris Waller-trained star in nine of his past ten starts — a streak that includes wins in the Chelmsford Stakes and Rosehill Guineas, plus a close second to Fangirl in the 7 Stakes.
“His biggest asset is not just his heart but also his attitude,” Rawiller said. “He never gives up. He probably knew he was more in front than I did because I wasn’t sure — he’s just a horse that keeps coming through for you.”
After some below-par runs through the Brisbane winter and a first-up miss in the Winx Stakes on heavy ground, Rawiller admitted he had doubts but credited Lindermann’s intelligence. “I started to lose a bit of faith in him on wet tracks,” he said. “But he’s smarter than me — he was just looking after himself.”
Sent out a $2.30 favourite, Lindermann dictated from the front and sprinted clear to win by 2¼ lengths over last year’s winner Attrition ($18), with Queensland Derby hero Maison Louis ($26) third.
Darren Beadman, now part of Waller’s team after moving from Godolphin, described Lindermann as “a pillar of the stable.” “He’s such a dude of a horse,” Beadman said. “Big, strong, powerful, and he gets the job done. He’s stood the test of time since his three-year-old days.”
Beadman said the team would consider a quick back-up into next week’s King Charles III Stakes (1600m) but confirmed the final decision rests with Waller.
