Latizia set to show her 2022 Blue Diamond Stakes credentials

Impressive debut winner Latizia will attempt to cement her position as the top seed of the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace -trained two-year-olds for the Blue Diamond Stakes when she runs on Wednesday.

The leading stable have an expansive number of youngsters on their books and added to their Blue Diamond arsenal when Counttheheadlights scored a debut win at The Valley on Saturday.

Latizia is set to run in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Caulfield on Wednesday, her second race appearance.

On debut Latizia scored a comfortable win over the straight 1000m course at Flemington on New Year’s Day after which Maher and Eustace considered taking the filly north for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast which was won by stablemate Coolangatta.

“The Magic Millions was going to come up too soon,” Eustace said.

“She’s got it all in front of her and we didn’t want to push her too quick.”

A number of the owners of Coolangatta are also in the ownership of Latizia and Counttheheadlights.

Eustace said Latizia had trained on well for her second start which is likely to be followed by the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on February 12 ahead of Melbourne’s premier juvenile race, the 2022 Blue Diamond Stakes two weeks later.

“She could nearly be our top seed for the Blue Diamond, but we’ll see how she goes on Wednesday,” Eustace said.

“She was impressive, she has trained on, she is looking great and the way she is going I think she could be our number one at this stage.

“There’s a couple of others that are nearly ready to go to the races, so we’ll see if they can put their hands up as Blue Diamond hopes as well.”

Latizia and Counttheheadlights are rated $11 chances in latest betting on the Blue Diamond with TAB which lists impressive debut win Jacquinot as the $5 favourite.
