A gear change is tipped to help last-start Group Two placegetter We’ve Got This raise his game again when he chases a first city win at Moonee Valley.

We’ve Got This finished third in the Group Two Euclase Stakes at Morphettville last start but trainer Greg Eurell believes the gelding has even more to offer.

That’s why Eurell has applied blinkers for Saturday’s 3YO Handicap (1200m).

“He still was a bit new last start and I thought he hit the line OK but I thought there was certainly room for improvement with experience,” Eurell said.

“What we’ve done is put a set of blinkers on him and hopefully that will give him that bit more confidence under pressure to hit the line a little bit harder.

“He’s certainly given us that indication in his work and hopefully that transfers through to Saturday.

“He’s just indicated in his runs that when he’s under pressure he just doesn’t quite now how to let down 100 per cent yet.”

Steven Arnold has the ride on Saturday in a race which has attracted 38 nominations including the Hawkes Racing-trained Kaepernick who finished second at Rosehill last Saturday and the Mick Price-trained last-start Flemington winner More Radiant.

Eurell has been pleased with how We’ve Got This has responded to the application of blinkers in his work.

“Since Adelaide we’ve been very mindful about working him in the blinkers to make sure he’s very comfortable in them on Saturday and we’re hoping it does do the trick,” he said.

“Certainly from what we’ve seen at home it’s an improvement on what he’s doing.”

Eurell considered Brisbane winter carnival options for We’ve Got This but felt the three-year-old was still too inexperienced and preferred to keep him at home to continue his development.

We’ve Got This’s only win was on debut in a Cranbourne maiden but his three starts this campaign have netted two Flemington seconds as well as his stakes placing in Adelaide.

Eurell also has stayer Rednav nominated for Saturday’s 2040m open handicap but doubts the four-year-old, who won a benchmark race at Ballarat first-up, will gain a start as he is well down the ballot order.
