Tyler Schiller to bring out Psychiatrist’s in The Rosebud

Gerald Ryan will saddle up three horses at Rosehill on Saturday and it is no coincidence Tyler Schiller is riding two of them.

Ryan is a fan of Sydney’s reigning champion apprentice and says the youngster’s laidback nature serves him well on race days.

“I’ve been using him since he claimed three kilos in the county,” Ryan said.

“You never see a horse pull with him. He has a really quiet demeanour and I reckon he transfers it through to the horses.”

That skill will be put to good use when Schiller partners Ryan’s headstrong colt Psychiatrist in The Rosebud (1100m), while earlier in the program he links with in-form stablemate Conscript in the Cabramatta Bowling Club Handicap (1200m).

After resuming with a closing third to Hulk over 1100m at Randwick in June, Conscript led throughout to score over the same course and distance last month.

He has two wins and a second from four starts over 1200m, although interestingly, Saturday will be his first time racing at his home track.

Ryan reports the five-year-old has continued to thrive and having proven himself on wet and dry surfaces, track conditions won’t be an issue.

“He’s flying,” Ryan said.

“He worked really well last Saturday morning and he backed it up again Wednesday morning.

“A better track won’t worry him. He has won on good tracks before.”

Just A Jedi rounds out the stable’s arsenal when he tackles the ClubsNSW Handicap (1400m) second-up and while he will be better placed over longer journeys, Ryan regards him as an each-way chance.

He will be partnered by Brenton Avdulla.
