Lady Shenandoah secures slot in 2025 The Everest field

Chris Waller’s star mare Lady Shenandoah has become the latest runner confirmed for the world’s richest turf race, The Everest, locking in her place for the $20 million feature on October 18.

On Monday it was announced the four-year-old will fill the slot owned by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, joining stablemate Joliestar, who was booked into the field last week. Lady Shenandoah is now the sixth horse secured for this year’s renewal of the 1200m sprint.

Owned by Hermitage Thoroughbreds, the Snitzel mare already boasts an outstanding Group 1 record, with victories in the Flight Stakes, Surround Stakes and Coolmore Classic during her three-year-old season. She returned this spring with an eye-catching second in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes earlier this month when luck deserted her in the run.

Hermitage manager Shannon Clarke said the Everest confirmation was a proud moment for the ownership group. “We are thrilled to see Lady Shenandoah gain a spot in this year’s Everest. It’s a race that captures the imagination of the racing world and to be represented by a mare of her calibre is a great honour. We’re also incredibly grateful to Fairway Thoroughbreds for their support and confidence in Lady Shenandoah.”

Lady Shenandoah will continue her build-up in the $2 million Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 26, giving her the perfect lead-in to The Everest.
