News:

Amid the hype of promising two-year-old Ef Troop’s first-up win the effort of second-placed Only Wanna Sing has been largely forgotten.

Only Wanna Sing went to the barriers a $31 chance before finishing a neck behind Ef Troop in a two-year-old race over 1050m at Doomben two weeks ago.

EF Troop ran a class record of 60.33 seconds with Only Wanna Sing also under the old time.

Trainer Robert Heathcote is confident despite a wide barrier (8) Only Wanna Sing can grab his share of the limelight in the Watpac Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on Saturday.

If he can run well, Only Wanna Sing will be aimed at the $2 Million dollar Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on January 13.

“If he runs well we would definitely be looking that way. A win would certainly put him up there with enough prize money to get a start,” Heathcote said.

“He was very immature at his first start. Ron (Stewart) said he was going to go past Ef Troop but didn’t know what to do.”

“I know Tony (Gollan) has an opinion of Ef Troop and I think our bloke will have taken plenty for the experience.”

Some rain is predicted for Saturday but that does not have Heathcote worried with Only Wanna Sing.

“He is by Your Song and the breed all seem to love wet tracks,” he said.

Heathcote will have two runners, Bidii Babe and Pinch River, in the Listed Keith Noud Quality on Saturday.

“Bidii Babe did a good job first-up on a track which was too hard for her,” Heathcote said.

“Pinch River was in a great form before a spell and has won three times first-up.”
