Wet weather in south-east Queensland has forced Robert Smerdon to delay sending Lumosty to Brisbane for the winter carnival.

Lumosty was in line to race in the Mick Dittman Plate at Doomben on Saturday but instead she will stay in Melbourne and run at Flemington.

The three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock will take on the older sprinters in the All Victorian Sprint Series Heat 2 over 1100m.

But Smerdon still intends heading north with the filly for the Group One Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.

“She’s heading towards the Tatt’s Tiara so she can run at Flemington on Saturday and again a fortnight later,” Smerdon said.

“To stay here and go down the straight twice suits us better, then she can then go up for the lead-up in the Dane Ripper a fortnight before the Tatt’s Tiara.”

Lumosty created a big impression when she won her maiden at Sale by nine lengths last October before connections paid a late-entry fee for the filly to contest the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

Sent out favourite, she finished eighth behind Amicus before heading to Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day, winning the Fillies Classic over 1600m.

Lumosty wound up her spring finishing sixth behind Set Square in the VRC Oaks over 2500m.

Smerdon has given the filly two trials in preparation for her return to racing.

She ran a three-quarter length second to recent Gold Coast winner Srikandi over 800m on April 14 before a nose second to Maconsilia in a 990m heat on April 27.

Stablemate Politeness, sixth in last Saturday’s Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville, will be joining Lumosty in Brisbane.

Owned in the same interests at Lumosty, Politeness will run in the Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 before the Tiara.

“She’s come through her run in Adelaide well,” Smerdon said.
