Richard and Chantelle Jolly are relieved their runners have come through the enforced delay unscathed ahead of Saturday’s Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville.
Klabel and Great Maximus were originally set to contest the race last weekend before extreme heat forced the abandonment of the meeting, pushing the event back seven days.
While the delay was less than ideal, Jolly said both horses have handled the extra week without issue.
“I was disappointed when they called it off, but it hasn’t really changed anything for us,” Jolly said.
“The horses are in good shape and ready to go now that the race is back on.”
Klabel shapes as the stable’s leading hope after breaking through for his first win since August with success in the Listed Christmas Handicap (1200m) on December 27.
The gelding had been racing consistently in both Victoria and South Australia before finally landing a deserved victory.
“He’s a very honest horse,” Jolly said.
“All his runs in Melbourne last prep were solid and coming back to Adelaide seems to suit him.
“He’s a 99-rater which makes things tricky, but this race looks similar in depth to the Christmas Handicap and he should be right in it.”
Great Maximus, meanwhile, faces a tougher assignment under weight-for-age conditions.
“He probably needs another run and ideally a bit of give in the ground,” Jolly said.
“He’s a good horse on his day, but over 1100 metres at weight-for-age it’s not perfect for him.”
Punters can assess the market through leading Australian betting sites ahead of Saturday’s meeting.
