News:

Still on a high from sprinter Private Secretary’s win at the Magic Millions carnival, her trainer Greg Hickman is now looking to veteran stayer Dream Folk to take out a feature race.

Private Secretary scored a barnstorming win in the $1 million Fillies and Mares race last Saturday week at the Gold Coast while Dream Folk runs in the Listed Australia Day Cup at Randwick.

Second in the race a year ago, Dream Folk is one of seven acceptors in Thursday’s 2400m-race as he tries to turn the tables on Destiny’s Kiss.

“He’s in good form and ran second last year,” Hickman said.

“He needs the 2400 metres and I’d like to think he can be very competitive. He’s run second and third at his last couple and these types of races suit him.”

Dream Folk was originally trained by the late Guy Walter. He is a half brother to the Walter-trained Tie The Knot who numbered two Sydney Cups among his 13 Group One wins.

With Dream Folk getting into the race on the 53kg minimum weight, apprentice Andrew Adkins will ride Dream Folk.

“Jay Ford has chosen to stick with another horse and there aren’t many riders in Sydney who can ride at 53 so Andrew gets his chance,” Hickman said.

Ford will ride the Jason Attard-trained Shalmaneser who has finished third in his past two starts in stakes company behind Red Excitement in the Tattersall’s Cup and Destiny’s Kiss in the Summer Cup.

Destiny’s Kiss will carry 59.5kg as topwweight with Brenton Avdulla to ride.

Hickman has no grand plans for Dream Folk beyond the Australia Day Cup and has yet to map out a program for Private Secretary who came from last to win at the Gold Coast,

“It was a great win,” he said.

“I didn’t really appreciate how good at the time but having watched the video a few times, it was special.

“It was my first win in a million dollar race as well.”
