In the news:

Mr Smart might not have the profile of his Group One-winning stablemate Sincero but trainer Steve Farley is looking to him to post his own milestone with an overdue city win at Randwick.

Sincero pleased Farley with his second in a 1000m barrier trial at Gosford on Tuesday ahead of his autumn campaign aimed at enhancing his Group One tally.

Ambitions are not so high for Mr Smart who runs in the 1800m benchmark 70 on the Kensington track on Wednesday hoping to improve on his last-start second in a similar race two weeks ago.

“He’s had no favours with the barrier draw (10),” Farley said.

“He’s not brilliant out of the gates and last time he had to work hard to get to where he did and just kept going at the same pace which is him.

“He’s very honest and I think he will get 2000 metres.”

That’s also the distance Farley thinks Sincero can get to this preparation and the dual Group One winner will be entered for the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

“Twelve months ago I said I’d never run him over 2000 metres again but now I’m not so sure,” Farley said.

“He may have another barrier trial or go first-up into the Expressway Stakes.

“There are a lot of options for him heading to the Championship races and we will him tell us where we should go.

“He will be nominated for the Doncaster and the Queen Elizabeth.”

The winner of the 2011 Stradbroke Handicap and George Main Stakes, Sincero was unplaced in three spring starts after a long injury-enforced break.

“I wasn’t disappointed with him because we were always a run behind,” Farley said.

“He was getting beaten three lengths in Group races. If it was eight or nine I would have been disappointed.”

Grant Buckley rode Sincero in Tuesday’s barrier trial and will also be reunited with Mr Smart at Randwick.

Farley will make a decision on Wednesday whether Saturday’s Kembla winner Choice Larga will back up this week at Randwick in an Inglis Bonus series race.
