Ciaron Maher was full of praise following Jimmysstar’s standout performance in the All Aged Stakes, a victory that capped off a campaign which has reshaped the gelding’s reputation from uncertain to elite Group 1 competitor.
There could be more to come, too, with connections eyeing a potential start in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup over 1300m at Eagle Farm on June 1.
“It’s still a big ‘if’ at this point,” said Jack Turnbull, Maher’s assistant trainer. “The most important thing is that he pulled up really well from Saturday’s win.”
Jimmysstar has turned heads this prep with wins in both the Oakleigh Plate and All Aged Stakes, while also placing in the William Reid Stakes — a record that has made him one of the stable’s breakout stars alongside Light Infantry Man, who captured the Australian Cup.
His All Aged Stakes triumph at Randwick earned a Racing and Sports rating of 122, underlining his sharp improvement and top-level credentials.
“He’s in cracking form, but there are a few different paths we could go with him and nothing has been locked in yet,” Turnbull said, hinting at options for the spring.
“If we decide not to press on to Brisbane, we may give him a break and aim for an Everest campaign, possibly kicking off with The Shorts.”
Jimmysstar is currently the $6 second favourite in futures markets for the Kingsford Smith Cup, with Giga Kick leading the market at $4.50, according to leading betting sites.
