Ten races make up the program this Saturday at Rosehill, headlined by the Listed January Cup over 2000m.

Rain is forecast right throughout the week, and the rail remains in the true position at time of publish.

Our best bets ahead of the meeting can be found below.

Race 1 – 11:25am – Class 3 Handicap (1200m)

Far from an easy race to start the day with a capacity field of sprinters stepping out.

Steplee resumes in search of his hat-trick after rattling off two very impressive wins at Scone and Muswellbrook last year. He’s got some work to do from the gate, but James McDonald is on board and his wet track form also stacks up.

Golden Point is also out for three in a row and is returning on a quick backup. Drops a couple of kg’s with Jason Collett steering and is another one that will appreciate any sting out of the track.

Kinjina has won over this trip previously and is racing on the quick backup after running third at Inverell on New Year’s Day. She’s drawn to get the gun and has to be considered.

Tip: 2 Units Steplee

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 1

Race 2 – 12:00pm – Fujitsu General Handicap (1500m)

Dynamic Impact put together back-to-back wins in his return to the races before finding the mile a stretch too far on Boxing Day at Randwick.

One of those wins came with Jenny Duggan on board, and he should be rock-hard fit now for four runs back.

The son of Real Impact handles soft going, and the step back to 1500m should suit.

Tip: 2 Units Dynamic Impact

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 2

Race 3 – 12:35pm – Precise Air Handicap (1500m)

Saigon gets out to her preferred distance now where she’s won twice and placed twice previously.

The I Am Invincible mare resumed a narrow runner-up at Rosehill last month behind a good horse in Shihonka, and that form reads well.

She’s fitter for two runs back and meets her rivals slightly better off at the weights, and her soft track form stacks up if there is any rain about.

Tip: 3 Units Saigon

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 3

Race 4 – 1:10pm – Midway Handicap (1400m)

Wide-open race with a case to be made for a few.

Nictock is a super consistent gelding that really hasn’t run a bad race recently. Gets out to 1400m for the first time, but was found wanting late on Boxing Day when fourth to Animate over 1200m at Randwick.

The son of Nicconi has had to overcome wide gates in his last two starts, but looks to have plenty of options this time from barrier 3 and should run well.

More Sundays was an impressive two-length winner second-up at Beaudesert and now gets Rachel King in the saddle. He’ll need luck from the wide gate, but he’s capable of going on with it.

Holy Reign tends to run well at this stage of his prep, and he can take big improvement away from his first-up run when third at Randwick.

Tip: 2 Units Nictock

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 4

Race 5 – 1:45pm – Petaluma Handicap (1400m)

Quite like Lackeen dropping back to 1400m following a couple of game efforts over the mile.

The Godolphin five-year-old finished a length third to Lightning Jack a few weeks ago at Randwick, and that form reads okay with third place-getter Zegalo going on to place again on Boxing Day.

He doesn’t win out of turn, but Lackeen did gap his rivals by over a length first-up at Flemington over 1400m. So long as the track isn’t too wet, he should be right in this.

Tip: 3 Units Lackeen

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 5

Race 6 – 2:20pm – ACY Securities Handicap (1100m)

Never Second was scratched from Wednesday’s meeting at Warwick Farm in favour of a start here, and I think she can measure up in town.

The Zoustar mare has rattled off two impressive wins by a combined four-length margin, both on wet tracks at Kembla Grange and Gosford. She’s fitter for four runs back and drawn well, while she’s also never missed the money in three starts over 1100m.

Rule of Law follows a similar script following two comfortable wins himself at Kembla Grange. The wide gate is the only knock, but he has to be included.

Tip: 2 Units Never Second

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 6

Race 7 – 3:00pm – Ranvet Handicap (1500m)

Canasta has been racing well of late and appears to be working towards another win.

The six-year-old son of Mafki was less-than a length fourth to For Valour last week on the Kensington track, and now returns on the quick backup looking to go one better.

The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding has placed in three of his four starts when racing on a short backup, and he’s got plenty of form at Rosehill to suggest he can add to that record.

Joshua Parr has ridden him to three wins and two placings from seven starts, and the pair should be doing their best work late.

Tip: 3 Units Canasta

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 7

Race 8 – 3:40pm – Listed January Cup (2000m)

Chris Waller has dominated the acceptances for this year’s January Cup, and one of his top chances looks to be seven-year-old gelding So You Win.

The son of So You Think stormed home to win at Doomben two back over the same trip, and he appeared well on his way to a double at the top of the straight in the Summer Cup before weakening late to run seventh.

He found himself wide that day and had to do plenty of work in transit, so the inside gate should improve his chances of bouncing back.

With three wins to his name at Rosehill and an impressive soft track resume, he goes on top for mine.

Tip: 3 Units So You Win

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 8

Race 9 – 4:20pm – Chandon Handicap (1800m)

Willing to give the normally consistent Zegalo another chance here.

The Chris Waller-trained five-year-old presents fourth-up following a luckless run down the straight on Boxing Day where he finished third to Dhakuri at Randwick.

He was the beaten favourite that day and will likely go around here at short odds, and if he can overcome the wide gate early, he should be in the mix again.

Tip: 2 Units Zegalo

Bet Now: Rosehill Race 9

Race 10 – 5:00pm – Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1200m)

Ranges’ wins are spaced, but he does have form around Animate after running half-a-length second on Boxing Day at Randwick.

The son of Shooting To Win was only beaten in that race over the final 50m, and I thought he showed a real turn of foot at the top of the straight after racing on speed for the majority.

He’s getting fitter, drops a few kg’s, and absolutely loves a wet track. At the current price, I think he’s worthy of a look each way.

Tip: 3 Units E/W Ranges
