Punters have deserted star Kiwi galloper It’s A Dundeel in Sportingbet Cox Plate betting following news he will miss his intended lead-up run in Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes due to a hoof injury.
It’s A Dundeel drifted from a $3.40 second favourite out to $4.50 after news of his hoof abscess was made public and has eased again out to $4.80 this morning.
“The punters don’t want to know him, we’ve have hardly taken a bet on him since Saturday and I expect he will continue to drift in the lead-up to the Cox Plate,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.
“Any setback is a blow, but to miss a run before the Cox Plate is a huge disadvantage when you are taking on the likes of Atlantic Jewel, Fiorente and Puissance De Lune.”
Atlantic Jewel remains a $2.80 favourite, but best backed in recent days has been Fiorente.
“Punters have singled Fiorente out as the horse who can beat Atlantic Jewel. He’s firmed from $5.50 into $4.80 since Damien Oliver was announced as his new rider and we think he will be a clear second favourite by Cox Plate day,” Felgate said.
