Feature racing in Queensland heads west for one of the most enjoyable days of racing on the calendar.

Race 1 – 2YO Handicap (1200m)
Honey Pot finished third in the Listed Bill Carter first up at Eagle Farm and will find this much easier.
The filly is a dominant favourite in this race but I’m happy to sit back and watch the opening race of the day.
Race 2 – 3YO Handicap (1350m)
Three year old filly Indiscreetly is a really interesting runner in the second race of the afternoon at Ipswich.
She won her first three starts of her career showing a huge amount of ability before failing in the Magic Millions Guineas on the Gold Coast.
I have no information why the stable has waited so long to get her a start during the carnival but she has had three trials since April.
She will wear a stallion chain for the first time which suggests to me that she has caused some headaches for Danny Bougoure and the team in recent times but her most recent trial at Deagon was excellent.
I suggest watching closely in the mounting yard and behind the barriers, plus keeping an eye on betting in the lead up to the jump.
Race 3 – Benchmark 78 Handicap (2500m)
A couple of these that are right down the bottom of the weights and in the market will struggle at 2500m in my opinion when looking at their breeding.
Read My Future will not have that issue and he comes into this race having won his last two at the Sunshine Coast.
The son of Nostradamus has won four of eight overall and has a fitness edge over a few of these runners.
Race 4 – Gt Northern Ipswich Mile-Rs1ly (1666m)
A couple of these at the top of the market are confusing to me and Glen Ord comes into this race in pretty good form.
The nine year old has won two of his last three including a 2.3 length win over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast in a benchmark 75.
The apprentice will claim meaning he carries just 56kg and with a bit of luck he can run a race at good each way odds.
Race 5 – Class 6 Handicap (1100m)
The David Vandyke trained Orbisyn won the first four races of his short career before being sent out as favourite at Doomben first up.
That was a red hot race with plenty of seasoned race horses and after doing a fair amount of work in front during the run, he struggled over the last 100m to finish seventh.
I’m willing to forgive that run a bit and he will take plenty of benefit out of the run and he will appreciate both the step back in class and distance.
Race 6 – 3YO Handicap (1100m)
Uncommon James started his racing career with a narrow defeat on the Gold Coast but then followed that with a dominant 3.3 length win on the Sunshine Coast where the third horse was a further 2.3 lengths back.
He closed out his debut prep with a win in the Listed Oxlade Stakes at Eagle Farm this time last year and he has had two trials leading into this first up assignment.
Race 7 – Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m)
Ballistic Boy is going better than his form on paper looks.
He was well beaten in the Scone Cup as well as the Q22 last start but was only beaten by just over a length in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup in between those failures.
Ryan Maloney can give him a nice run in transit from barrier six and he represents good each way value at his current price.
Race 8 – Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m)
This looks an ideal race for Holyfield who has been excellent in both runs so far this prep.
He finished within a length of emerald Kingdom in Rockhampton before flashing home between horses to be less than half a length behind Soxagon in the BRC Sprint.
He didn’t have it all his own way in that race when he was cramped for room and considering Alligator Blood ran second in that race, it looks the right form line to follow.
Race 9 – Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m)
Juan Diva started this prep with a 1.5 length win at Caulfield in a benchmark 84 over 1100m and both her runs in Queensland have been full of merit.
She has finished fourth in two listed races at Eagle Farm and she should be ready to peak at this stage of her prep from the good draw.
Glitter Strip is the second emergency in this event but should she gain a start she represents great each way value.
This is certainly a step up in class so she will need to go to another level but she is well in at the weights and is a consistent mare.
