Instant Celebrity to resume in the 2021 Cockram Stakes

Phillip Stokes will allow the campaign of Instant Celebrity to unfold after the mare has her first-up run at Caulfield.

Trainer Phillip Stokes has chosen the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) on Saturday to start Instant Celebrity in which may lead the mare to Sydney for the $2 million The Invitational (1400m) at Randwick in October.

Instant Celebrity has not started since running second to Savatoxl in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap (1200m) at Morphettville in May which followed her victory in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes over that same course and distance at her previous start.

Stokes said Instant Celebrity did not have a complete spell from training and was able to retain a lot of her residual fitness.

“She’s had a couple of jump-outs here at Pakenham, the second of them last Thursday,” Stoke said.

“She’s a high-class mare.

“We haven’t set anything in stone as to her campaign and he haven’t ruled anything in or out it just depends on what races we decide to target.”

Instant Celebrity has raced three times beyond 1200m, registering two wins at 1400m and a third-place finish in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield last October.

Stokes just queries whether Instant Celebrity runs out a strong 1600m, which may rule the mare out of the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington on the opening day of Melbourne Cup week.

A $1 million bonus is on offer for any horse that can win one of 12 specified races in addition to the Empire Rose.

“I’m not sure if she runs a mile, the 1400 metres might be more her go,” Stokes said.

“We might go to that $2 million race in Sydney, but in saying that it’s got a little bit harder with the borders and what jockey will be available.”
