News:
An emotional Kelso Wood declared his mare Real Surreal was ready for another feature win at the Gold Coast after her victory at Ipswich on Saturday.
Real Surreal, the $3.30 favourite, stormed home to beat Tukiyo ($12) by a half neck in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m).
Wood said Real Surreal would back up in next week’s Group One Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast.
“She likes the Gold Coast and she is racing well. Why not try for the Group One,” he said.
Wood had Real Surreal when she won the 2013 Magic Millions at the Gold Coast before the filly’s transfer to the Hawkes training partnership in Sydney.
She did well in Sydney, but Real Surreal was returned to Wood earlier this year and was having her second start back in Brisbane.
“I just want to thank the owners for sending her back to me. She is something special and I think she should have won by further today,” Wood said.
“She got back in the field and had trouble getting clear.”
Fare Well ($7.50) took the minor placing.
